OS CV-R Swap Questions

OS CV-R Swap Questions

Postby XLCrusher » Fri Oct 09, 2009 10:13 am

Hello, I'm a total Noob to Nitro Trucks!!! that being said any help would be greatly appreciated!

I bought a used OS CV-R .18 for the TC I just bought. I admit that I got it on a whim and now not sure if it will fit. At first glance, it appears that the stock flywheel & clutch bell won't fit... Is the Crankshaft too short?

Do I need to replace the Crankshaft, Flywheel or clutch?

I emailed OS Technical Support who stated I needed a different Crank part# OSMG4465. How can I tell what Crankshaft the engine has? I want to make sure I don't already have that crank.

Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Thats a tough one. Not sure if there is anyway to know what you currently have. You would have to pull it and see if there is a model number stamped into it.

From what OS tech support is saying, sounds like you will either have to change out the crank shaft or the flywheel and clutch/clutch shoes. I would lean more towards replacing the flywheel, clutch and clutch shoes because I don't know how well a different crank shaft will fit in the same engine. But then again, OS says it will work so maybe that would be easier.

Not sure which way will be cheaper, but I would price it out.

Thanks for the reply & advice!

I'll take the engine to a local hobby shop to see what I can find!

Thanks again! :tam

Have you compared the stock engine crank to the CV-R crank? Either it will fit or not. Check the timing if it dose. looking at the end where the piston connects to the crankshaft and the opening slotted in the shaft they should be really close. Just an idea to save money before you buy one you don't need.

I have a cvr in my terra crusher, as long as it is the same crankshaft that comes with the tc or tnx then you are fine. as far as fly wheel I use the one from tnx alot ligther, don't remember if the stock one will fit. Side note os piston and sleeves fit tamiya fs.18sr

Oh I remeber now I tried to put the tc fly wheel on .18 fsr (same thing as .18 cvr) the fans wouldn't fit around the crankcase so you will have to get a tnx fly wheel. I rembered that because I wanted to get the blue gpm fly wheel.
